A Bible History of Baptism

A Bible History of Baptism, written by Samuel J. Baird and first published in 1882, provides a scholarly examination of baptism's origins and significance within the Judeo-Christian tradition. Baird emphasizes the ritual's deep roots in the Old Testament, particularly its role in covenant-making at Sinai, and explores various forms of baptism in Jewish tradition. The work aims to elevate the understanding of baptism beyond mere practice disputes, highlighting its profound spiritual implications and historical context as a critical aspect of the visible church's foundations.
