A Basket of Barley Loaves

Written in 1870, this collection of intimate Christian meditations places the reader in the crowd gathered around Jesus, yearning for His touch. The author weaves narrative moments from the Gospels, particularly the miracle of the barley loaves, with personal reflection, creating a spiritual exercise that feels less like reading and more like prayer. Each meditation builds toward a deeper understanding of Christ's compassion, not as doctrine to be parsed but as warmth to be felt. Miller writes with Victorian earnestness and surprising vulnerability, inviting readers to trace their own spiritual hungers against the ancient story of a man who fed five thousand with barley loaves. The book does not lecture or instruct; it longs. For readers who find modern devotional literature too polished or detached, these raw,跪ly 19th-century reflections offer something harder to locate: a faith that trembles, hopes, and reaches.
