唐鍾馗平鬼傳

A historical fantasy novel likely written in the late 19th century. The story centers on Zhongkui, a learned man from the Tang Dynasty who seeks to rid the world of malevolent spirits, thus embarking on a journey filled with encounters with various supernatural characters. At the start of the novel, we are introduced to Zhongkui, who meets with the ruler of the Underworld, Yama, after his untimely death. Yama grants him the title of ''Great General to Pacify Ghosts'' and equips him with a team of spirits to help combat the evil entities plaguing the human realm. The narrative delves into a chaotic introduction to various spirits in Wanren County, including the malevolent No-Credit Ghost and the scheming Short Life Ghost, who plot against each other while Zhongkui prepares for his mission to confront the rise of wickedness.
