Η Νέα Γυναίκα: Δράμα Εις Πράξεις Τέσσαρας

A dramatic play written in the early 20th century. The story is set against the backdrop of societal expectations and the evolving roles of women, and it primarily revolves around the lives of the Memidof family, particularly focusing on the daughters and their struggles to assert their identities in a patriarchal society. The opening of the drama introduces the Memidof family returning home from a dance, setting the scene in their elegantly decorated boudoir. The scene captures a candid conversation among the sisters and their mother, discussing the various social pressures and familial expectations they face. The eldest son, Kostas, is resistant to the arranged marriage his mother desires for him, which adds tension to the family dynamic. The dialogue highlights the conflict between traditional values and the desire for personal freedom, particularly as Kostas reveals his secret marriage to a woman of independent means, setting up the central conflict of the play.
