Percy B. Green

Percy B. Green II was a prominent social worker and civil rights activist based in St. Louis, Missouri. Born in the Compton Hill neighborhood, he dedicated his life to advocating for racial equality and improving opportunities for African Americans in his community. As an active member of the St. Louis chapter of the Congress of Racial Equality (CORE), Green played a crucial role in the civil rights movement, pushing for systemic change and social justice. He was also a founding member of ACTION (Action Committee to Improve Opportunities for Negroes), an organization focused on addressing the socio-economic challenges faced by Black residents in St. Louis. One of Green's most significant contributions to civil rights was his role as the plaintiff in the landmark case McDonnell Douglas Corp v. Green, which set important legal precedents regarding employment discrimination and remains frequently cited in American jurisprudence. Throughout his nearly fifty years of activism, Green has been a steadfast advocate for equality and inclusion, serving on the board of the Peace Economy Project and continuing to influence the fight for social justice in the St. Louis region.
