Ismael León Almeida (San Nicolás de Bari, 1953) has been a journalist since 1983 and has devoted a significant part of his work to researching Cuban sports fishing. He has published the books *Polo, cantor de la montaña*; Vitral, Pinar del Río, 2003 (Polo, singer of the mountain.), *Pesca deportiva cubana. Historia y tradición*; Editorial Científico Técnica, La Habana, 2009 (Cuban sport fishing. History and tradition. ), and *Técnicas y Peces del aficionado cubano*; Editorial Científico Técnica, La Habana, 2014 (Techniques and Fish of the Cuban amateur). Publication issues: **The Cuban tournament of Ernest Hemingway** (2012) and **Filipino fishermen in Havana? (Responding to Hemingway)**. As part of the study themes developed by the author, we highlight the research on the facet of the novelist Ernest Hemingway as an amateur fisherman, reflected both in his biography as well as in the writer's literary and journalistic work. Research results presented more extensively in the author's books were presented at the XIV and XV International Colloquia Ernest Hemingway, held at the Palacio de O'Farrill Hotel, Havana, in 2013 and 2015. The next books in the process of writing are about the biography of the noted Cuban ichthyologist Dr. Darío Guitart Manday (1923-2000), founder of the National Aquarium of Cuba, founding director of the Cuban Oceanology Institute, and scientific editor of the renowned work Ichthyology Cuban, written in the nineteenth century by naturalist Dr. Felipe Poey Aloy, prize of the International Exposition of Amsterdam, 1883, and only published in book in the year 2000, as a result of years of study of Dr. Guitart. A study on Hemingway and fishing is also in preparation, a summary of all the works around the writer's fishing hobby, begun in 1994, and finally a book about Fisheries Tourism in Cuba, which includes a result of two Work projects carried out as tutor of thesis of degree of the Faculty of Tourism of the University of Havana.
