Vänrikki Stoolin Tarinat (suom. Cajander)
Vänrikki Stoolin Tarinat, written by Johan Ludvig Runeberg and published in two parts in 1848 and 1860, is a collection of narrative poems that recount the experiences of Finnish soldiers during the Finnish War (1808-1809) against Russia. The titular character, Vänrikki Stool, serves as a storyteller reflecting on themes of bravery, camaraderie, and the longing for homeland amidst the harsh realities of war. This work is notable for its role in fostering Finnish nationalism in the 1840s and includes the poem 'Maamme,' which is now recognized as the national anthem of Finland. The first Finnish translation was completed by Paavo Cajander in 1889.
