Why should the gas lines of the 1970s become a permanent part of American life in the 1980s? The international energy system is now so precariously balanced that a critical supply interruption can occur at any time. Gasoline rationing could be the immediate response in a new crisis. But is the United States ready? This volume analyzes these urgent issues. It is the result of a special symposium of the nation's leading experts convened by the International Energy Seminar at Harvard's Center for International Affairs to explore the various options for reshaping gasoline demand.
