Mother, May I?

Mother, may I go outside? Mother, will we walk or ride? In this sweet rhyming story a mother and child take a trip to the mall, where the child asks his mother for a present: a basketball, a toy, or a pet ("A parakeet, a snake, a guppie/A guinea pig, a mouse, a puppy..."). In the end, though, all the child really wants is a great big hug... ("and, Mother, may I keep this bug?"). Charming watercolor illustrations are by Melissa Sweet.
