This book analyzes the history of Azcapotzalco, Tlacopan, Tenochtitlan, and Tlatelolco, from the moment of their foundation to the consolidation of the colonial system, including the relationships that these peoples maintained among themselves over the centuries. It focuses on the indigenous leaders, their relationships, and their strategies for survival during colonization, using an approach that includes a philological analysis of the textual evidence and an examination of the problems with these sources.
