About this book
"Announcing a collaborative artists edition of a long poem by Nancy Kuhl. An edition of 45 copies of The Birds of the Year has been printed by Leslie Miller at The Grenfell Press in New York City. The text is printed in Dante on 1958 J. Whatman paper; the cover, giclée prints of original collages by John Digby, is printed on Entrada rag paper. About the poem, poet Dan Beachy-Quick writes: 'Nancy Kuhl’s The Birds of the Year—a poem of poems—begins with an opening sense of finding a language that wholly fits the thing it names, some essence of breath and syllable, that like bird song, is as much the being’s identity as anything physical could be. How this Hopkinsesque sense of the onomatopoetic in language opens one into the daily life, the ordinary ground, the community that builds around common forms of attention that lets us be human even in our isolation, is stunning, and better, true.'"--Publisher's announcement.
