"Research based on El Rincón de Guanajuato, an area that includes parts of Guanajuato, Jalisco, and Michoacán states, examines changes in the relationship between small/mid-sized cities and rural areas between 1970-90. Women entered the labor market as workers in local industry and as vendors of imported products; men increasingly depended on earnings as migrant laborers, either in Mexico or, more frequently, in the US to augment farm earnings.
