About this book
From a family with artistic sensibility, Mariana Yampolsky (Chicago 1925 - Mexico City, 2002) arrived in Mexico in 1945, attracted by the work of the Taller de la Gráfica Popular in the art school "La Esmeralda". Her work as a photographer began in 1948, in an exercise of personal registration of the various trips undertaken throughout the country. Her photographic work recognizes the cultural diversity of Mexico, especially the rural world. The photographic work of Mariana is characterized by a privileged sensibility, where the daily events, the amusements, the emotions, the pains and the joys of the people, are fundamental, especially of those who live in the countryside. Along with a small selection of her photographic work, this book includes a set of essays made by different specialists that introduce us to her legacy, which she secured through the Fundación Cultural Mariana Yampolsky, and that is now part of the holdings of the Universidad Iberoamericana Ciudad de México-Tijuana.
