Comfort and keep

At first it had been difficult for Jane Abercrombie to transform herself into Sheena, but now it was quite simple. Naturally shy and lacking in self-confidence, Jane had for years nursed a secret dream: a colour planning and furnishing business of her own. Driven by her compelling talent and by her hopeless love for volatile Bill Lamb, a love which had survived the years since she and her brother Noel had played with Bill and his brothers Jack and Andrew as children - Sheena became a reality: dull red brick with a white door, off the Brompton Road. It had been against all reason and advice that Jane continued to carry the torch for Bill. So when Andrew came back into her life and made no attempt to disguise his interest in her, just as Bill, flying in from Tanzania, seemed to have Sue Stannard in tow, Jane realised she had reached a crossroads: steadfastness, kindness and comfort or alternating happiness and sorrow. Jane made her choice, coolly assessed her position and set out - as she had set out to achieve Sheena - to keep it.
