About this book
This book argues that especially in times of crisis politics addresses the senses and the emotions of the masses. To prove this hypothesis the author explores identity constructions in Scotland and Wales by examining national exhibitions in Glasgow and Edinburgh and the Investiture of the Prince of Wales at Caernarforn Castle at the beginning of the twentieth century. In these popular events the Scots re-negotiated the meaning of the word 'British' while the Welsh experimented in new deals in regional and national politics.
