LaSalle and the Discovery of the Great West

After New-World explorer Rene-Robert Cavelier de La Salle (1643-1687) claimed the magnificent Louisiana Territory for France in 1684, he was sent out on a new mission but never made it to his destination. La Salle and his men instead arrived in Texas, where they suffered terrible disease and were viciously attacked by wild beasts. They searched endlessly for the mouth of the Mississippi and on the third attempt La Salle’s own men turned on him. Somewhere between the Brazos and Trinity Rivers they killed him. His body was never found. This is a gripping story from the true history of the American West.
