CBS News/The New York Times national surveys, 1983

CBS News/The New York Times national surveys, 1983

Inter-university Consortium for Political and Social Research, CBS News

About this book

These seven datasets are part of an ongoing data collection effort in which The New York Times and CBS News are equal partners. Each survey includes questions about President Reagan's performance in office, especially with respect to economic and foreign affairs. In addition, each survey includes questions about other social and political issues, as well as questions about respondents' personal backgrounds. The October survey was conducted in two waves, before and after President Reagan's speech about Grenada on October 27, 1983. The October samples are weighted separately, and two separate datasets for October are being released. The October datasets may be analyzed separately, or may be combined. In all of these surveys, respondents were interviewed by telephone, and selected from among eligible members in households selected by a random digit dialing technique. Part 1: Conducted January 16-19, 1983. Individuals responded to questions about Reagan's handling of economic and foreign affairs, various proposals to reduce the federal deficit, unemployment, and social security. Part 2: Conducted April 7-11, 1983. Individuals responded to questions about Reagan's handling of economic and foreign affairs, the environment, and defense policy.
