The Dean Tavern

The Dean Tavern was opened in 1899 by the village owners, the Lothian Coal Company, in an attempt to control their workers' drinking habits. This book covers the controversial beginnings of the Dean and its history to the present, plus stories of village life, the coal company, other local drinking houses and the history of coalmining in the area.
