"The Herculaneum Pottery was built on the South Shore in Toxteth Park, Liverpool in 1796, and gave its name to the later Herculaneum Dock and that part of the Mersey coastline. During the 44 years in which it operated, the pottery made wares ranging from simple earthenware jugs and mugs for everyday use to fine ornamental china - products which rivalled anything made in Staffordshire at that time.
