Bild und Ornament im frühen Athen
Bild und Ornament im frühen Athen
About this book
This study analyzes the relationship between figural image and decoration in 10th-7th c. BC Athens, a time when the decorative played a central role in visual culture, while at the same time a complex culture relating to the figural image was being formed. Through an examination of the categories that define the image, it becomes apparent that the decoration of early Greek vases is often created explicitly to transcend the boundaries between figural image and decoration.
