Les histoires de Franz
About this book
The Stories of Franz is the second part of the novel sequence inaugurated in 2016 by Abraham and Son . In the first part, Doctor Farkas, a repatriated doctor, and his son Franz, aged about ten, arrived in 1963 in Tilliers, a small town in the Beauce, and moved into an old house. They linked to Claire and Luciane, a young widow and her daughter, and elucidated together the enigma surrounding two Jewish families hidden in the house in 1942. This second part follows the Farkas family between 1965 and 1970. Abraham became physician in charge of maternity at the local hospital of Tilliers; Claire and two of her friends militate at the nascent Family Planning; Luciane is eighteen and seeks to emancipate herself; Franz keeps a newspaper, writes news, maintains a correspondence nourished with a mysterious interlocutor, meets high school teachers in high school and binds to two adolescents who, like him, come from afar. In the course of their commitments, the Farkas will meet ghosts - the disappeared of the Algerian war, the left-behind of the French colonial empire - and will do their best to get them out of oblivion.--Translation of summary by P.O.L.
