Psychiatry and the Christian

Two major atttitudes towards sex and marriage can be seen in the history of Christianity. One view, attributed to St. Augustine, holds that the spirit can rise to God only through denial of the flesh. The Thomistic view is that the sexual appetite, like any other appetite, is good providing that it is regulated according to God's will. This book shows that, while theoretically following St. Thomas, many Christians by temperament still subscribe to a more limited view.
