This collection of essays sets forth an updated and complete overview of the provinces of ancient Rome. It analyzes their characteristics and the mechanisms by which they functioned, takes stock of our knowledge of each province, and proposes a first approach to the wide-ranging, multiform, and complex reality of the Roman Empire, focusing on aspects that have hitherto been neglected in scholarly literature.
