REED, Nathaniel Pryor Nathaniel Pryor Reed was born in Manhattan, New York on July 22, 1933. After graduating from Trinity College and serving four years in Air Force Intelligence, he joined his family's real estate and holding company as a vice president. He soon began his environmental work and led conservation fights throughout Florida. He was the environmental adviser for Florida governor Claude R. Kirk Jr. and was an assistant secretary of the Interior from 1970 until 1977. Reed helped turn the Endangered Species Act into law. His memoir, Travels on the Green Highway, was published in 2017. He died from a brain injury on July 11, 2018 at the age of 84.
