Segmented Representation

Examines how the success or failure of political parties in representative democracies rests on their ability to engage voters in highly unequal and individualized societies. Using Chile's right-wing UDI and Uruguay's left-wing Frente Amplio as case studies, looks at how both have achieved political victories by simultaneously segmenting and harmonizing their linkages to distinct cross-sections of voters.
