Black Caps and Red Feathers

John Nkemngong Nkengasong

About this book

We need to first of all appreciate Pr. Nkengasong for the enormous effort he is putting in to represent the post modern African society and most precisely the Camerooian society. The text is written in the 'form and style' of Absurd Theatre wherein the modern man is really portrayed as that man who has suffered from a fatal shock psychologically speaking. It is a representation of the African arena. It is full of satires, dry humour, ironies etc. In short it is a 'Comedy of Menace'. Black Caps and Red Feathers is a modern play wherein Nkengasong represents the Ahidjo regime and its ills. This is to say that he satirises the arch dictator Babayaro (and other African rulers who grapped power after independence) and his acolytes as they dive into numenclecy, embezzlement and the torturing of his subjects like Creature. Babayaro does not relent his efforts using the Gendarmes to quel down any of opposition. They get into sorcery because they need to maintain thier positionj with the authorities of the alps why not France and its allies. In a bid of doing this they kill patriots like A. Ngom Jua and many others. However, Babaro like Dr. Faustus regrets his end because he finds no profit in his excessive quest for power and wealth. GISCARD TELON foningtel@yahoo.com 94623726 78642744
