Shelter from the storm

Robert Kozak

About this book

Tells the story of how the Palatine settlers in Fredericktown, Maryland provided places of refuge for fellow Palatines from the Great Valley, and further west, who were burned out of their farms during the French and Indian 'scorched earth' campaign of 1756-1757. At the same time, it also tells the story of a family from the Palatinate, the Brunners at Schifferstadt, an adaption of the Anglo-Saxon fortified house, who provided refuge while also providing defense as the front line of the Seven Years' War moved east to the foot of South Mountain.
