Wheels on Waves

Wheels on Waves
About this book
For more than three years, Arthur Tress photographed dynamic forms in California skateboard parks and captured skaters in motion on swelling pools of concrete. Best known for his staged photographs, Tress breaks new ground in this series by capturing rapid motion in the moment with his square-format Hasselblad camera. Visually, skateboarding is extraordinary, Tress says. I love the graceful movements of the skaters against the strong curves and shadows of the concrete bowls. I was happy to have discovered this as a subject matter. Born in Brooklyn, New York, Arthur Tress has exerted a profound influence on American photography since the 1960s. His work is in numerous major museum collections and has been published and exhibited around the world. He lives in Cambria, California.
