Atlas of American Diversity

The Atlas of American Diversity visually captures for the reader the racial and ethnic variety of contemporary America. Through the use of over 200 maps and charts, the Atlas tells the story of dozens of these groups - from Tongan Americans to Salvadoran Americans to Italian Americans. It examines their residential patterns in the United States, their family patterns, occupations, age distribution, income, immigration history, and housing preferences, among other topics. A final chapter compares these groups on many of these topics, highlighting the variability of the American experience for members of different ethnic groups. Distilling thousands of pages of census documents and other statistical data on American racial and ethnic groups into easily understandable maps and charts, the Atlas highlights trends and conditions not otherwise observable, making it an ideal tool for scholars, students, and policy makers alike.
