"The exhibition '±1961--founding the expanded arts' focuses on an unparalleled year of experimental development and culmination at the start of that most notorious of decades, the 1960s. Centered on a body of work defined as text-based propositions, from all kinds of artists--composers, chroeographers, poets, and artists (ex-painters)--wishing to transcend disciplinary convention and traditional media, the exhibition departs from key sources of this work such as the collection called 'An Anthology' initiated by La Monte Young in 1961 and published in 1963, and the vast body of score-based work that started with John Cage and culminated, finally, in Fluxus."--P. 4.
