Daughters of thunder

Daughters of Thunder brings together the voices of fourteen black women preachers along with historical and biographical information that places them in the context of their times. Spanning the days of slavery on through the long struggle to gain the most basic of civil rights, these remarkable women delivered messages of hope and faith that cut to the heart and moved their followers. The women represented here include figures known to scholars and women who have gone unnoticed despite their great impact. Encompassing themes ranging from racial and gender discrimination in the church and society to the tenets of their shared theology, their sermons reveal women of great faith, courage, and wisdom. Dr. Collier-Thomas provides the reader with vital background information about these women's lives, their theology, and the issues that moved them to preach.
