North Fork
About this book
In 1909, fresh from Colorado's State Normal School, Josephine Carter boarded the Colorado Midland Railroad and headed across the Continental Divide. The early 1900s followed the great silver boom in the Rockies, and Josie sees towns and railroads struggling to survive. Her destination, Meredith, Colorado, was a rough, sparse settlement of quarry men, loggers, ranchers, and their families. Learning to cope with fifteen pupils in eight grades, a long, dark winter, and loneliness enabled her to take on the adventure that changed her life. She finds kindhearted people, friendship, and eventually, herself. This tale of a young woman's growing maturity brings the early twentieth century in the Colorado Rockies to life.
