About this book
Through the liberality of Congress, the sum of $8,000 was given to the Naval Observatory for the purpose of observing the solar eclipse of July 29, 1878. With this money, eight regular parties were sent out by the Observatory to stations on the line of central eclipse, these stations extending from Creston, Wyoming, to Dallas, Texas. Besides the regular parties, several other observers were stationed at various points along the line.
Reports involving the January 11, 1880 total eclipse begin on page 395 of this document.
