Small Peter had never met his dead father's haughty Spanish relatives, and his aunt Laurel, who had virtually brought him up, was not at all keen to take him to Andalucia and hand him over to them. She was even less keen when she met Peter's formidable uncle, Luis de las Anguilas, who seemed determined to think the worst of her. But how could she fight her growing love for Luis, who in the Spanish way was already promised to another, far more suitable woman? Laurel wanted to keep her nephew, Peter, after the death of her sister and her sister's husband, Pedro de las Aguilas. For Peter's sake, however, she felt compelled to take him to his father's family in Spain. The family's hostility over Pedro's marriage was understandable. Unexpected was the bitter enmity that the arrogant Luis de las Anguilas directed at Laurel personally. It was inevitable that their passions would flare out of control.
