According to the author the purpose of this book "is to make available ethnographic data gathered on the Jarai, Bahnar, Cua, Hre, Chil, Monom, and Cham not included in previous publications. These data offer glints of a world that had been shining in a setting of nature, a world that in our time is rapidly vanishing because of the deadly effects of war, racism, and globalizatin."
