Das Hobrechtsche Berlin

With the development plan of the surroundings of Berlin in 1862 a basis was created, on which the inner city builds up to today. The present volume provides insights into the history of ideas and real history of the great urban planning of Berlin and explains general principles of the emergence and change of urban structures of the 19th century as well as planning discipline. The book is the prelude to alternative readings of Hobrecht's Berlin, the urban expansion planning of the 19th century and the history of the disciplines of urban planning and urban planning. For the first time, the zoning plan of 1862 was superimposed on the ground plan of today's Berlin with the help of new cartographic methods. This plan forms the basis for the rich illustration of this anthology. In the appendix of the book - also for the first time - all departmental plans of the town planning of 1862 in collected form as well as copies of the still existing explanatory reports are made accessible. The results presented here from an interdisciplinary research project at the Institute for Urban and Regional Planning of the TU Berlin enable a profound and critical examination of Berlin's urban and planning history.
