About this book
In 2004 Norbert Schöbel (DE) had the idea to walk from his adopted home, Brussels, to the city of his birth, Munich. But in fact, he and his partner Thorsten Baensch (DE) ended up continuing from Munich to Prague, to Berlin and Hamburg, and returning from there to Brussels. A walk of more than 3,000 kilometers, in a closed circle across central Europe in 155 stages, over a period of 12 years and 7 months (2004-2017). This large sized book of over 750 pages is the report of their quest. One can enter the whole journey in multiple ways, as every stage has a customised, detailed map, a written travelogue in German (with short summaries in English), and the total walk is captured in 1,000+ photographs. The reader is taken on a journey through ordinary, yet oddly fascinating places, while discovering various leitmotifs in the man-made landscape. This feel-good book is a celebration of walking, of a borderless Europe, and the contemplative aspects of hiking
