Winter's Tale is designed to exemplify the best in the art of contemporary short story writing. The authors include many who have already gained national and international reputations and those who, for the time being, are not so well known. The length and content of the stories are so varied as their authors. The original series of Winter's Tales was published annually for twenty-eight years. This is the first in a new series. The authors in this volume are Muriel Spark, James Charro, Gillian Tindall, Cees Nooteboom, Rachel Billington, Giles Gordon, Clare Colvin, Zulfikar Ghose, Rachel Gould, and Frank Tuohy.
