American public opinion and U.S. foreign policy

This study includes data for 1,546 United States citizens, 18 years of age and older. The variables measure attitudes toward foreign affairs issues such as the relationship between domestic and foreign policy priorities, the appropriate responses to the growing military power of the U.S.S.R., the sacrifices the American public is prepared to make to implement policies, and the roles of various individuals and institutions in the creation of foreign policy. Variables also include age, income level, race, sex, media attention, religion, educational level, occupation, and political orientation of the respondent. The survey was conducted by the Gallup Organization, Inc., from a stratified systematic national sample.
