Unter vier Augen

The catalogue consists of around fifty portraits: masterpieces of the genre from the collection of the Staatliche Kunsthalle Karlsruhe. These portraits, taken from six centuries, are here the object of literary and art-historical investigation. Renowned German authors, intellectuals and art historians were inspired by the paintings to create stories, observations, speculations, character studies and lyrical interventions.
