An American year

The calm contentment, aesthetic appreciation of a countryman as he rounds the calendar cycle in terms of trees and wild flowers and garden yield, from unpredictable April to the high noon of July, to November, late evening of the year, and round again to Spring. Some of the material has appeared in his popular essays on the editorial page of the Sunday Times; here are manifestations of the seasons, the pleasures and (occasionally the troubles) they afford the true countryman. The book is illustrated by more than 70 woodcuts and engravings by American artists.
