When young, fatherless Peter Debauer discovers an incomplete story in a volume of fiction he becomes obsessed with the tale of a soldier, presumed dead, who returns home after the war. Peter begins a quest to find the ending, to discover what the soldier finds at the house he shared with his wife and daughter.
