Speed

Speed
About this book
**Speed** was published to accompany a thematic exhibition of the same name, which explored the presence of speed in twentieth-century art. Highlighting the central position that speed occupies in our lives and our culture, this catalogue brings together many of the twentieth century's most visionary artists, from Boccioni to Hapaska, Sickert to Hamilton, each reflecting our modern obsession with time and movement.
Originally conceived by Jeremy Millar and Michiel Schwarz, Speed was realised as a collaborative project between four different organisations: The Photographers' Gallery, London, The Netherlands Design Institute, Amsterdam; The MacDonald Stewart Art Centre, Guelph, Ontario and the Whitechapel Art Gallery, London. With contributions from JG Ballard, Nancy Campbell, Blaise Cendrars, Edward Dimendberg, Susan George, Ivan Illich, Mark Kingwell, Scott McQuire, Jeremy Millar, Robert Musil, Judith Nasby, Helga Nowotny, Matthias Rieger, Kirstin Ross, Wolfgang Sachs, Michiel Schwarz, Peter Sloterdijk, Sebastian Trapp, Paul Virilio, and Peter Wollen.
