The beginning of the 20th century marks a crucial point in legal hermeneutics: On the one hand, it concerns the ending of a long tradition of legal interpretation which had mainly focused on the creative character of legal application. On the other hand, the 20th century is a paradigmatic new beginning, since Gustav Radbruch, Arthur Kaufmann and Winfried Hassemer form a "hermeneutical opposition" against the increasingly influential analytic theory of law. The present volume, previously published in Italy assembles the most important writings with short introductions.
