Art of Fast Comedy : For Standup, Improv, Sketch, Essay and Short Story Writing and Screenwriting Includes Interviews with Comedians

David Thurston

About this book

This book is crossfit for creative artist. The purpose of this book is to encourage and enable artist of one discipline to do multiple disciplines, to encourage and enable the improviser to do standup, the comic to do improvisation, the writer to perform, the performer to write. Everybody should be writing, essays, short stories and screenplays. Mitch Hedberg was a brilliant comedian, but he never wrote a screenplay. What story would he have told if he had? How many movies would he have written if someone would have enabled him to write screenplays when he was just getting started? We don't know. If you are passionate about something you'll get good at it and when success comes someone will ask you do to something, whether it's a corporate show, writing a book, doing a podcast or in Mitches case, writing a screenplay - when someone asks you to do something, you want to be able to say, "Yes." My goals is that everyone I can influence, never has to feel what Mitch felt. That gut wrenching feeling that, "its not fair."
