Learning to be an effective reader is a vital part of becoming a successful user of English, whether for work or for study. But what is involved in effective reading? And how can we help students become effective readers? Using insights from discourse analysis, Teaching Reading Skills describes how the texts we read are organised to communicate meanings efficiently. It suggests ways of helping students to develop into effective readers in a foreign language and provides teachers with practical, usable classroom techniques.
