Das Kloster Santa Maria da Vitória in Batalha und seine Stellung in der iberischen Sakralarchitektur des Spätmittelalters

The Monastery of Santa Maria da Vitória in Batalha is without doubt one of the most important historic buildings in Portugal. It is also one of the few outstanding examples of a late gothic monastic complex in Europe. This study presents a comprehensive examination of the complex which is used as a basis to re-evaluate the chronology of its construction. The ground plan of the church and the major elements of the monastery have been newly measured to establish a high level of accuracy with regard to the construction work.
