Lyrical poems of Robert Browning

Lyrical poems of Robert Browning1907

Andrew Jackson George, Robert Browning

About this book

This piece of history is a collection of Robert Browning's poems selected and arranged by professor A. J. George and published in 1906 under the title Lyrical Poems of Robert Browning. Though published with future college students in mind, the work is a valuable volume to any Browning reader, as George arranged the poems in chronological order and provided both literary and biographical commentary for each work. His method of selection for the poems in this volume makes it especially unique; George asked 75 of his pupils to choose 35 out of the 100 Browning poems which they found the most interesting on a stylistic basis and which they would be most likely to reread for pleasure. "The test which they applied," writes George in his preface, "was the test to which time subjects all forms of art—power to interest permanently."
