The wolf and the buffalo

Post Civil War novel dealing with the struggle of the Indians against the tide of white settlers. Gray Horse, "the Wolf," a young Comanche warrior, leads his people against the settlers. Gideon Ledbetter, an ex-slave, is recruited by the white man's army to join a regiment of black cavalry that became known as the buffalo soldiers. Gideon sets aside his private hatreds to become a great soldier and leader of men.
