Three spirituals from earth to heaven

Three of the best loved of the American Negro Spirituals are here interpreted by an artist whose birthright is an authentic understanding of their imaginative and spiritual qualities. He gives us that understanding in terms of an art that has all the appeal of the Negro's conception of religion, it's close emotional identification with religious ideas and events, it's simplicity of feeling and it's dramatic quality. Yet his work transcends it's immediate inspiration by a breadth, vitality and sensitivity of interpretation that are universal in their significance.
